Critical analysis and digital documentation of the transformations of heritage buildings

Trabzon Hagia Sophia Mosque symbolizes significant cultural heritage with its historical diversity and distinctive architectural features. Today, this building is remarkable for its cultural transformation and historical layers. The study aims to address the transformation processes of the Hagia Sophia Mosque in the light of international conservation criteria, to understand the history of the building and to reveal the digital perspectives of this historical place. The study comprises a four-stage process: (1) investigating the building's history through a literature review, (2) obtaining visual and technical data through fieldwork, (3) conducting a transformation analysis and generating a three-dimensional measured model, and (4) providing evaluations and recommendations on the building's transformation and digital modeling in alignment with conservation criteria. The digital model of the building as a result of the study will be part of the preservation of such an important piece of cultural heritage for future generations. The study emphasizes the need for more effective integration of digital modeling techniques in conservation and documentation studies, extending from Hagia Sophia to various cultural heritage sites.

Sustainability, eco-friendly design, and green design concepts have become prevalent due to the negative consequences of globalization. Sustainability various fields, such as health and architecture, in addition to impacting the tourism sector. Sustainable hotel practices begin with the site selection for the building. are based on the principle of considering the building, environment, and human as a whole, adopting principles that aim to minimize environmental problems preserve natural resources. In this study, Trabzon Zorlu Grand Hotel, which green hotel certificate and occupies an important location in Trabzon, was discussed highlight the significance of sustainability in hotel buildings and emphasize environmental awareness. The study was conducted in three stages. Firstly, theoretical context was developed. In the second stage, data related to the study were obtained, and an interview was conducted with a hotel official using observation method. In the final stage, the obtained data were evaluated, recommendations were presented. The findings suggest that the hotel generally the sustainable hotel criteria in the context of water, waste management, energy, transportation, pollution, materials, sustainable lands, management, indoor and innovation.
Post-occupancy evaluation: an expert-user-oriented model proposal based on key sustainability indicators

Purpose The user-oriented reusing of historical heritages is a powerful planning strategy to increase sustainability and provide socioeconomic benefits for cities. The study aims to determine the post-occupancy sustainability of reused historical buildings.Design/methodology/approach A holistic model was designed by considering expert and user opinions to select the post-occupancy sustainability of reused historical buildings. The proposed model was developed concerning key sustainability indicators (KSI). This proposed model, which integrates expert and user views, is examined in an educational building with significant cultural value in Mardin.Findings The results of the KSI model indicate that the functional, technical and environmental sustainability of the building are at a medium level, while the aesthetic sustainability is rated as good. An analysis of the differences between importance and performance shows that the largest gap is in functional sustainability, with the smallest gap in technical sustainability. The environmental and aesthetic sustainability indicators show a smaller performance gap than the other two. The results suggest that functional sustainability requires immediate intervention, technical features should be improved based on user needs and aesthetic and environmental sustainability require monitoring but no urgent action.Originality/value The originality of the research is that it proposes a model that combines expert opinion and the opinions of building users to monitor the sustainability of the reused buildings throughout the usage process and enables them to be monitored with key sustainability criteria and to develop improvement suggestions in line with the results obtained.
